JENNIE AWARDS CONTEST
The Jennie Award is the highest individual honor given by GFWC. It is named in honor of GFWC’s founder, Jane Cunningham Croly, who wrote under the byline, “Jennie June.” The Jennie Award gives clubs, states, and regions a wonderful opportunity to identify and pay tribute to outstanding clubwomen at each level along the way to national recognition. Nominees are selected based on their outstanding personal commitment to club, community, and family. By promoting the Jennie Award nominees and winners, we can also gain tremendous recognition in our communities for GFWC and our amazing members.
Essentially it allows clubs to nominate one of their own members for state recognition; then asks states to submit their winner to the region for possible tribute, and the region gets to forward two nominees to GFWC Headquarters, where one winner from each region is selected for presentation at the 2012 GFWC convention.
The Jennie Award contest narrative and the nomination form are contained in the Awards, Contests, and Grants section of the 2010-2012 GFWC Club Manual. You can access this online at www.GFWC.org/ClubManual. Click on “GFWC Awards, Contests and Grants,” and then “Jennie Award Nomination Form.”
If you cannot obtain either the printed version or the on-line PDF, let me know and I will send you the relevant Jennie Award pages and nomination form as a PDF attachment via e-mail or a printed copy via the U.S. Postal Service.
Please make the Jennie Award contest information available to your club presidents as well as promote their participation in the contest. You should consider an article in your state newsletter, posting the Jennie Award information and form on your state website, and/or sending a mailing (via e-mail or the Postal Service) to your club presidents. It is especially important that we reach those club presidents who do not have access to the Internet so they do not miss out on this wonderful opportunity to honor our outstanding clubwomen.
